Biography

Simon Berggården (b. 1981) is a composer residing in Väderstad, midway between Stockholm and Gothenburg in Sweden.
Berggården’s output encompasses a large range of works: chamber music, orchestral works, solo pieces, electroacoustic music and polymedial works. The basis for his creative work lies in a keen interest in layers and flows within, outside and between us. The idea that music-making, composing, experiencing music and music itself are useful communicable tools with which we can explore our connections to the earth, to cultures and to ourselves thus broadening the horizon of consciousness, plays a central role in the concepts of Berggården’s compositions.
Berggården is dedicated to promote interest in active contact with contemporary music in our present day and he is active in the music scene as composer and as chairman of the composers association ’the Musicspectra T Society’, which organizes concerts, international cultural exchanges and produces publications.

During his studies in composition (Norwegian academy of music, BA, and Academy of Music and Drama, Gothenburg Univeristy, MA) Simon received a number of prestigious fellowships from among others The Society of Swedish Composers (2012), The Royal Swedish Academy of Music (2014 and 2015) and the Foundation Gurmund-Neubergh (2014). In 2015 he received a working grant from the Swedish Arts Grants Committee.
